L.A. Spine Surgeon Rad Payman, MD Shows Treatments For Back Pain In TV Interviews

By: K. Rad Payman on June 24, 2015

“Although back pain or neck pain affects up to 80% of the population at some time in their lives, help is available,” says Rad Payman. MD, who is a board certified spine surgeon. Causes can include over-exercise, improper posture, sports injuries or degenerative disease. Back or neck pain can affect a person’s quality of life, work performance and enjoyment of favorite activities. Dr. Payman recently appeared on Fox Morning News in Santa Barbara and in Bakersfield to explain the causes of spinal problems and how they can be treated, often with non-surgical therapies or with minimally invasive surgery.

In the interviews Dr. Payman describes the types of non-surgical therapies that he utilizes for his patients. When surgery is required, Dr. Payman says there are various procedures that can relieve pain and reduce downtime required for recovery while helping to restore range of motion. Micro-laminectomy, disc replacement and spinal fusion are among the procedures that are available. With minimally invasive procedures patients can heal faster and they usually recover more fully, says Dr. Payman.

One of the most common causes of lower back pain is lumbar spinal stenosis, which causes narrowing of the spinal canal and compression of the spinal nerves. Spinal stenosis can also affect the spine in the neck region. Treatment may include non-surgical options such as physical therapy and medication. If these treatments don’t bring relief, surgery is the next consideration. For example, a micro-laminectomy may relieve the pain for patients with symptomatic, painful lumbar spinal stenosis with less downtime than a traditional laminectomy.

In the interviews Dr. Payman discusses spinal disc replacement and how this procedure compares to spinal fusion. He also shows how to avoid developing back or neck pain when traveling or sitting for long periods.
